
Jalandhar: Preparations for the dharna being organised by continuously day and night from 26 to 28 May, 2025 by Dehati Mazdur Sabha in front of the office of the Divisional Commissioner Jalandhar to achieve the burning demands of the workers, has been completed. This was stated by the State President Darshan Nahar, General Secretary Gurnam Singh Daud, Press Secretary Baldev Singh Nurpuri and Finance Secretary Shamsher Singh Batala while addressing the media persons in a press conference called in the press club Jalandhar today. The leadsmers strongly condemned the discriminatory attitude of the central and state governments towards the burning demands of landless rural labourers who are deprived off all kinds of means of production too. They demanded- Ensured implemention of the MGNREGA law in villages as well as in the cities, with full guarantee of work for all adult members of every labourers’ family throughout the year and must raise the daily wage upto Rs. 700 per day, strengthen the public distribution system to curb the ever-increasing inflation, providing essential commodities at cheapest prices through government depots, immediately making ration cards for the needy and those who are short of them, providing residential plots of 10 marla and a grant of Rs five lakh rupees to the homeless and needy to build houses, increase the old age,
Widow, disabled, dependent pension to Rs 5,000 per month and the age limit for women to be increased to 55 years and for men to 58 years, free provide equal and quality education and health facilities to all dwellers, fill up of vacant posts in all the departments, boards corporations etc., provide potable drinking water free to every citizen of India, drug trafficking should be stopped strictly and smugglers should be severely punished according to the law, right of the loans of poor people.
They said that the surplus, waste, Najool and Shamlats lands must be distributed to the landless under the Land Ceiling Act and 1/3rd share in the Panchayat land should be given to Dalits. They urge the State Govt. to fulfill the guarantees made to the people during the elections, The leaders informed that all preparations have been made in full swing to reach the dharna with their families by holding yard/mohalla meetings in villages and cities. There is great enthusiasm among the workers to reach the dharna with their families.
The leaders further said that if the government does not pay attention to the demands of the workers even after this protest, the Rural Workers’ Union will be forced to wage a more intense struggle in the coming time.
