Singhu Border, 25 May (Sangrami Lehar Bureao)- Tomorrow, on Buddha Poornima, at the protest sites at Delhi borders as well as in other locations across the country, farmers will celebrate the holy day. This farmer’s movement is running on truth and non-violence, and will be completing 6 months of its historical struggle tomorrow. Samyukt Kisan Morcha requests all Indians to celebrate and mark Buddha Poornima tomorrow, so that truth and non-violence find a strong place back in our community, at a time when attempts are being made to erode these basic values in our society. The repeated attempts of the BJP government(s) to portray the movement as violent have failed again and again. Farmers have only strengthened themselves with peace and non-violence throughout this struggle.
It has also been the most anti-farmer rule in the country so far, from 26th May 2014, when BJP formed a government at the centre. From the time Mr Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister, multiple anti-farmer measures have been adopted over seven long years. Whether it is the dilution of the Land Acquisition Act 2013, or the failure to provide MSP, or even decent hikes in MSP announcements, whether it is demonetisation or failure to protect farmers from natural disasters in the age of climate change, or whether it is the current egotistic attitude towards the ongoing farmers’ struggle, Modi government amply proved itself to be anti-farmer. The Modi government took several decisions that went against not just farmers but other ordinary citizens too. This government has adopted repressive measures against farmers, workers, poor, dalits, women, adivasis, students, youth, small traders and entrepreneurs, other citizens and also against the environment, in its seven years of governance so far. These seven years of Modi Government misrule, and the failure to fulfill farmers’ demands despite 6 months of peaceful protests will be marked tomorrow all over the country as a Black Day for India. SKM appeals to all citizens to mark the Black Day by hoisting a black flag from their homes, vehicles and other places, to express deep resistance and resentment amongst citizens. SKM also urges citizens to show their resistance by burning effigies of the Modi Government. Social media should be used to the maximum possible extent to mark the Black Day tomorrow.
Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) has appealed to all sections including farmers, laborers, youth, students, employees, writers, painters, transporters, traders and shopkeepers to express their protest on this historic day. Farmer leaders said that farmers should wear black turbans and black chunni on this day. Demonstrations should also be held in the chaurahas with sloganeering. Farmers said that by putting black flags on houses, shops, offices, tractors, cars, jeeps, scooters, motorcycles, buses and trucks, citizens should oppose the three agricultural laws, the Electricity Amendment Bill and the Pollution Ordinance.
RSS-affiliated Bhartiya Kisan Sangh (BKS) has put out a statement objecting to the proposed Black Day tomorrow. Samyukt Kisan Morcha noted the contents of a statement put out by RSS-affiliated Bhartiya Kisan Sangh and condemns the fact that any so-called farmer union in the country can stoop down to denigrating such a historical farmers’ struggle as the current farmers’ movement led by SKM. BKS has made baseless allegations on the movement. It is apparent that political and party affiliations are coming in the way of BKS’s understanding of the 3 black central laws, as well as the fight for MSP as a legal right. SKM believes that any farmer outfit that maligns the current genuine farmers’ movement is bound to be made irrelevant by Indian farmers themselves. BKS’s statement is to be understood in this background, where because of the ongoing widespread farmers’ movement, BKS is finding that its support base is eroding rapidly. We ask BKS, affiliated to the party in power, to appeal to the government to fulfill the farmers’ demands, instead of proving itself yet again as the most anti-farmer government ever in independent India.
